formulas and functions - part 2

Entering today's date by selecting from the category list

Let's enter today’s date by selecting the TODAY function from the category menus.
The Function Library on the Formulas tab contains category menus. By clicking a menu, you can find a function in the category list.

These are useful when you know the category of the function you want to use.

1. Click the cell in which you want to enter today’s date.

	Which category do you think the function is in?
	The function to display today’s date…Date & Time?
	Correct! Now click Date & Time to open that list.

Tip: Functions list by category Refer to “List of worksheet functions (by category)”.

2. Click Date & Time in the Function Library on the Formulas tab.

3. Click TODAY in the list.

Tip: Popup menu in the list If you want to know the description of a function, move the mouse point over the function name in Function Library on the Formula tab. A popup menu opens to display a hint about the function being pointed to.

4. The Function Arguments dialog box appears. Click OK.

Today’s date has been entered.
